Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. If you’re planning the long weekend in Tustin, start with what the city and school district have already posted. This is a practical checklist—not a festival guide.

City Hall: closed all day Monday

The City of Tustin lists City Hall Closed – Labor Day for Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, all day, at 300 Centennial Way.

Regular city hours (for other weekdays) are Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. If you need a permit counter, payment, or city staff help, handle it before Monday or after the holiday.

Trash and recycling: Labor Day is a “major holiday”

Tustin contracts with CR&R for residential trash and recycling. On the city’s Trash & Recycling Services page, Labor Day is listed among the major holidays.

City wording (paraphrased for clarity, matching the rule): if your scheduled weekly service day falls on or after a major holiday, service may be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. For other holidays, collection stays on the normal schedule.

What to do: check your usual pickup day against that rule. If you’re unsure about your route or a delay, call CR&R at (714) 372-8272, or check the city page / CR&R if unsure.

Schools: TUSD closed Monday

Tustin Unified School District’s 2026–27 calendar lists:

  • First day of school: Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026
  • Labor Day (no school): Monday, Sept. 7, 2026

So the holiday lands early in the new school year. Families should treat Monday as a non-student day and confirm any site-specific notices through your school or tusd.org.

What’s open—and what we won’t invent

Here’s the honest frame:

  • City Hall: closed Monday (confirmed).
  • TUSD schools: closed Monday (confirmed).
  • Trash/recycling: follow the major-holiday delay rule above; confirm with CR&R if unsure.
  • Parks, recreation facilities, libraries, stores: we are not listing what’s open. Hours change, and unofficial lists go stale fast. Check the city website and Parks & Recreation pages for city facilities, and call ahead for private businesses.

As of this writing, the city calendar for Sept. 4–7 is thin on special community events. The next Old Town Sunset Market on the city calendar is Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in Old Town (Main & El Camino Real)—after Labor Day weekend, not during it.

If you’re heading to Old Town

The city’s Old Town Improvements page still describes construction that began Jan. 5, 2026, and continues through Summer 2026, with possible traffic delays, temporary closures, and pedestrian detours. If you’re downtown over the weekend, allow extra time and use the public lots when street parking is limited. For the latest weekly notes, check the Improvements Coming to Old Town project page.

How to confirm before you go

  • City calendar and facility pages on tustinca.org
  • Trash: city holiday rule + CR&R (714) 372-8272
  • Schools: TUSD calendar / your school’s messages
