If you live in Tustin and you’re tired of finding out about something after it already happened, this is for you.

I’m Forrest Kelly. This is Tustin News, a local newsletter from Tustin Media, Inc. The site is new. The signup form has been sitting here longer than the articles have. That’s not a secret, and I’m not going to dress it up.

This post is the start. Not a relaunch of a long archive. A start.

What this is

Tustin News is an email about Tustin, California. City news. Local events. The stuff that actually lands on this city.

You can read stories on the site when they’re up. The main thing is the email. That’s what the homepage is built around, and that’s what I’m asking you to try.

If you want a county roundup, there are other places. If you want Tustin, stay.

How the newsletter works

You put your email in the form on the homepage. That gives me permission to email you. You can unsubscribe anytime. That line is already on the form, and I mean it.

When I send, it should be short. What happened. Why it matters here. What you might want to do about it — show up, write in, skip it, tell a neighbor.

The homepage currently promises daily updates on Tustin news and events. I’ll be straight with you: daily only works if there’s something worth sending. I would rather miss a day than invent one.

I don’t have a comments setup I’m proud of yet, and there aren’t live social links on the site. If you want to talk to me, reply to the email or use the contact page.

What I will and won’t do

I’ll watch City Hall. Tustin City Council usually meets the first and third Tuesdays. On the city’s 2026 calendar, the next regular meetings are Tuesday, September 1, and Tuesday, September 15. The city lists regular meetings at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Check the agenda before you go. Meetings move. I’m not going to preview a vote I haven’t read, and I’m not going to treat the calendar as a promise.

I’ll pay attention to schools, neighborhood issues, and local events when I can point to something real. I will not make up a festival, a fundraiser, or a “can’t-miss weekend” to fill a paragraph.

I will not sell you a lifestyle brand. I will not call a press release a scoop. I will not ask you to join a community when I mean: give me your email.

If I wasn’t there, I’ll say so. If I get a fact wrong, I’ll fix it.

What to expect this month

This month is the build. An About page. A Contact page. This welcome post. The first real emails.

I don’t have a published events calendar on this site yet, so I’m not going to invent one. Late August into September, the one date I can point to without guessing is City Council — September 1 and September 15, unless the city changes it. Everything else I write this month should come from something I can check, or from you.

If you know something happening in Tustin that people should hear about — a meeting, a school issue, a business change, a neighborhood problem — tell me. A name, a date, and a link or a photo is plenty.

If you already subscribed and you’ve been getting silence, that’s on the site being a landing page. I’m fixing that.

A note on the name

People who have been here a while remember The Tustin News, the old weekly. It ran for decades and stopped in 2018. This is not that paper. I’m not picking up their archive, and I’m not pretending I am.

Same city. New newsletter.

If you want to help

Reply. Send a tip. Tell me I got something wrong.

I need:

  • Things happening in Tustin that aren’t on a press release
  • Corrections, if I miss or misstate something
  • A straight answer from you on cadence: is a daily note useful, or would you rather get fewer emails that are a little longer?

I’m one person. I’ll get some of this wrong. I’d rather hear it from you than find out later.

Thanks for being early.
